Dec 30 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Monday's National Hockey League games:

Blackhawks 1, Kings 0

Brandon Saad's goal at 7:05 of the first period turned out to be the game winner as the Chicago Blackhawks shut down the Los Angeles Kings.

It was a rare loss for Kings' rookie goaltender Martin Jones, who entered the game with an 8-1-0 record, a 1.31 goals-against average and three shutouts.

Jones stopped 29 of Chicago's 30 shots, while Blackhawks goalie Antti Raanta stopped all 26 of the Kings' shots.

Chicago (28-7-7) have now won five of their last seven games while Los Angeles (25-11-4) lost their third consecutive game.

Predators 6, Red Wings 4

The Predators, getting two goals and an assist from center Colin Wilson, beat the Detroit Red Wings in a back-and-forth game.

Nick Spaling gave Nashville a 3-1 lead in the second quarter and they held off Detroit (18-14-9) in the third where each team scored three times.

The Predators (18-18-4) won their second successive game after they had snapped a five-game losing streak against the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday.

Senators 3, Capitals 1

Ottawa's victory over the Washington Capitals marked the first time the Senators put together back-to-back victories since they claimed three successive wins in early November.

Kyle Turris scored the game-winner in the second period while Mika Zibanejad and Clarke MacArthur scored Ottawa's other goals.

Senators goalie Craig Anderson allowed the game's first goal to Washington's Joel Ward, but then stopped 34 shots.

Flyers 4, Canucks 3 (Shootout)

Philadelphia center Vincent Lecavalier scored the only goal in a shootout as the Flyers beat the Vancouver Canucks.

Brayden Schenn, with his first goal in 17 games, forced overtime for Philadelphia (19-16-4) with 46.8 seconds to play in the third period.

Steve Mason made 41 saves and denied the Canucks (23-11-7) in overtime and the shootout to preserve the victory. (Compiled by Jahmal Corner. Editing by Patrick Johnston)
