NFL's oldest running back, Colts' Frank Gore, rushes into top 10 all-time

The Indianapolis Colts didn’t win in London against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but they had two bright spots: ageless Adam Vinatieri made a 53-yard field goal, the seventh straight attempt of 50-plus yards he has converted, and 33-year-old Frank Gore, the NFL’s oldest running back, made a big move in the record book.

Gore rushed for 56 yards in the first half, moving him into the top-10 on the NFL’s career rushing yards list. Gore entered the day in 13th place with 12,225 yards, and in short order passed Marcus Allen (12,243), Edgerrin James (12,246) and Marshall Faulk (12,279). He finished Sunday with 68 yards and a touchdown.

Number 9 on the list is Jim Brown, at 12,312 yards.

Gore overcame tearing the ACL in his left knee twice during his days at the University of Miami, two of a long list of events that he says shaped him into the player and man that he is now (he also suffered a fractured hip in Week 12 in 2010, while a member of the 49ers). Despite the injury risk he was coming out of college, Gore has had at least 200 carries every season of his career except his rookie season.
