NFL won't suspend Dolphins' Kiko Alonso for hit on Joe Flacco
As a team, the Baltimore Ravens were fired up after Miami Dolphins linebacker Kiko Alonso hit Joe Flacco at the tail end of the quarterback’s slide during last Thursday night’s game.
The hard hit knocked Flacco’s helmet off, and he didn’t return to the game and needed stitches on one of his ears. Though he was evaluated for a concussion, Baltimore coach John Harbaugh said on Monday that Flacco is not dealing with concussion symptoms and that there’s a good chance the quarterback will play Sunday against Tennessee.
Alonso got flagged 15 yards for unnecessary roughness on the play, but NFL vice president of communications Joe Lockhart said on Tuesday that the veteran will not be suspended for the play.
Speaking during his weekly conference call, Lockhart said the league has reviewed the Alonso play as well as the play on Sunday in which the Philadelphia Eagles’ Fletcher Cox injured San Francisco’s Joe Staley, and that no players will be suspended from on-field incidents that happened last week.
Alonso could still be fined, particularly since his hit on Flacco touched off a skirmish between Ravens and Dolphins players.
