NFL Week 6 Superlatives: Deshaun Watson pays homage to Warren Moon

We’ve unveiled a new feature this season – weekly NFL superlatives. It’s meant to be a lighthearted look at Sunday’s games, as we highlight best shoes, smartest couple and class clown. Here are the picks for Week 6:

Best Dressed: Deshaun Watson, Houston

We usually highlight a player looking sharp in a suit, but Watson’s throwback choice on Sunday was too good to pass up. The Texans’ rookie paid homage to the great Warren Moon, a Houston legend with the Oilers, with his powder blue No. 1 jersey, gold chain and old-school Air Jordans. Moon saw Watson’s clothing choice and tweeted, “Grateful that a future NFL great honors the NFL past…Now go be the best.”

Most Likely to be in the WWE after Football: Golden Tate, Detroit

Confession: growing up, I watched a lot of WWF with my Nana, and while the 80s superstars – British Bulldog, Ultimate Warrior, Macho Man Randy Savage – were great, The Rock will always be my favorite. And Tate must be a fan too, because he channeled his signature move, The People’s Elbow, to celebrate his second touchdown of the season. We smell what you’re cooking, Golden.

Favorite Senior: James Harrison, Pittsburgh

At 39 years old, Harrison doesn’t play as much as he used to. He was inactive in Weeks 4 and 5, and was on the field for a total of 10 snaps the first three weeks of the season. But on Sunday, when his team needed him, Harrison was active, played 15 snaps, and got what was essentially the game-sealing sack, bringing left tackle Eric Fisher with him as he took down Kansas City’s Alex Smith on third down with just over a minute to go as the Chiefs were trying to get to the end zone.

Class Clown: Hue Jackson, Cleveland

Look: I’m rooting for Hue Jackson. In my limited dealings with him, he’s come across as far more personable and likable than other men in his position. But, Hue, why?? Why did you bench DeShone Kizer for Kevin Hogan, the man who began training camp fourth on your depth chart? You thought that was the better choice? Yes, Kizer looked bad after the season opener, but you’re supposed to be a QB guru, right? Your team invested a second-round pick in Kizer, you saw enough from him in camp to name him the starter after the third preseason game, and he’s shown flashes. It’s going to be rough, but ride with him.

Most Fun: Marquette King, Oakland

He may “only” be a punter, but don’t tell King that. After a 59-yard punt early in the second quarter against the Chargers that pinned Los Angeles inside the 10, King broke out former Charger Shawne Merriman’s “Lights Out” dance. King is also a wine aficionado and has some great clapbacks for haters on Twitter.

Favorite Transfer Student: Adrian Peterson, Arizona

Just days after being traded from New Orleans, where he was No. 3 in the rotation, to Arizona, where he gets the chance to be the featured back, Peterson showed that he’s still got it. The 32-year old had 26 carries for 134 yards and two touchdowns as the Cardinals beat Tampa Bay.

Best Shoes: Martavis Bryant, Pittsburgh

This Steelers locker room has more drama than a season of “General Hospital.” For Sunday, Bryant had custom cleats made that were a none-too-subtle message to his quarterback: he’s always open. After Pittsburgh handed Kansas City its first loss of the season, there were reports that Bryant, a 2014 draft pick who missed all of last season due to drug suspension, asked to be traded. He had two catches on Sunday, giving him 17 for the season.

Smartest Couple: Cameron Brate and Ryan Fitzpatrick, Tampa Bay

When Jameis Winston left the Buccaneers’ game against Arizona with a shoulder injury, backup Fitzpatrick took over. In case you’ve never heard – though we’re quite sure you have – Fitzpatrick went to Harvard. But you may not know that there’s another former Harvard player on Buccaneers roster: Brate, a fourth-year tight end. When Fitzpatrick hit Brate for a 10-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, it was the first Harvard-to-Harvard hookup in NFL history.
