NBA-National Basketball Association roundup

Sept 20 (The Sports Xchange) - While Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant may be ahead of schedule in recovering from a torn left Achilles tendon, it appears unlikely that he will play in the preseason.

The Los Angeles Daily News reported Thursday that Bryant is still a few weeks away from running 100 percent on his own.

He was injured in April and recovery can take six to nine months.

The Lakers announced that they signed rookie power forward Ryan Kelly.

Kelly was taken by the Lakers in the second round of the draft out of Duke in June. He averaged 12.9 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.6 blocked shots in his final season.

Brooklyn Nets point guard Deron Williams told ESPN New York that he will be ready for the start of training camp Oct. 1 despite having another MRI on his right ankle next week.

Williams, who said he was injured while working out in Utah more than two weeks ago, is in a walking boot because of a sprain and bone bruise. (Editing by Frank Pingue)
