With a need to bolster their depleted frontline depth, the New York Knicks will sign veteran center Solomon Jones, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Jones' letter of clearance arrived Friday from China, clearing the way for him to join the Knicks for the rest of the regular season and the playoffs.

For Liaoning of the Chinese Basketball Association, the 6-10 Jones averaged 15.8 points and 10.4 rebounds this season. He played parts of the 2011-12 season with the New Orleans Hornets and Los Angeles Clippers, and played 58 games with the Atlanta Hawks in his first NBA season in 2006-07.

The Knicks plan to release veteran Kurt Thomas, out for the season with an injury, to make room on the roster for Jones, 28.
