Nationals' Harper picked to replace Stanton in All-Star Game

Outfielder Bryce Harper will be going to Tuesday's All-Star Game after all.

The Washington Nationals rookie was chosen Saturday night as a replacement for Miami Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton, who will be sidelined 2-8 weeks for knee surgery that was scheduled for Sunday.

Harper had finished third in the voting for the final spot on the National League All-Star team -- David Freese of St. Louis won it -- and was planning to take a few days off.

Now he will be the youngest position player to make the All-Star roster at 19 years, 9 months. Only Dwight Gooden (19 years, 7 months) was a younger All-Star in 1984.

Harper is hitting 283 with eight homers and 25 RBI in 244 at-bats since being called up by the Nationals two months ago.
