Update: McKinnon, who has been compared to Sidney Crosby since he was a preteen, made Team Canada as a 17-year-old and has played as high as the second line at the World Junior Hockey Championship. He was ranked at the top of the Central Scouting's December prospect list for the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
Recommendation: He, Seth Jones of Team USA and junior teammate Jonathan Drouin (Canada) are all vying for top spot and McKinnon has proven his mettle for Team Canada by toiling as a checker on the fourth line. However, he was promoted to the second line early in the tourney because of Canadian suspensions and he proved he fit there. He is talented, fast and plays with a sharp edge. And he's also from Cole Harbor, Nova Scotia, just like Mr. Crosby. He won't be the next Kid, but he's a franchise talent. Get to know him if you don't already.
