Morgan State is playing its best basketball of the season heading into the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament. The Bears closed the regular season on a five-game win streak after logging a 78-67 victory over Florida A&M at Hill Field House on Thursday.
Justin Black scored 20 points, leading four Bears in double figures as Morgan State (14-14, 10-6 MEAC) posted its eighth win in a span of nine games. Black also grabbed eight rebounds, helping the Bears outrebound A&M by a 41-26 margin. Ian Chiles added 18 points, while Dewayne Jackson tallied 15 points, and Shaquille Duncan had 11.
The Bears led wire to wire. Morgan State scored 20 of the game's first 24 points and led by as many as 19 before taking a 41-30 lead into intermission.
Florida A&M (8-22, 5-11) closed the first half on an 8-0 run and went on a 9-2 run late in the second half to get as close as seven points, but the Bears' lead was too big.
Morgan State shot 51.6 percent from the field and won despite missing 12 of 21 free throws and committing 20 turnovers.
Muhammad Abdul-Aleem paced the Rattlers with 16 points. Jamari Bradshaw scored 13 points, and Markee Teal added nine. The Rattlers go into the conference tourney having lost three straight and eight of 10.
