BALTIMORE, Md. -- Junior swingman Justin Black bounced back from a poor performance and sophomore forward Shaquille Duncan had a solid game off the bench, leading Morgan State to a 76-60 victory over South Carolina State in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game Saturday at Hill Field House.
Black, who was held to 11 points on 5-of-19 shooting against Saint Joseph's, had a team-high 17 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals. Junior center Ian Chiles had 14 points and eight rebounds while Duncan posted 10 points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots for Morgan State (4-8, 1-0 MEAC), which snapped a five-game losing streak.
Senior guard Khalif Toombs had a game-high 19 points for South Carolina State (4-11, 0-2), which has lost eight in a row and 10 of 11.
Morgan State trailed 22-16 with 11 minutes remaining in the first half, but the Bears mounted a 16-1 run to take a 32-23 lead with 4:42 to go. The Bulldogs reduced the deficit to five early in the second half, but the Bears took control with a 12-2 run. Morgan State led by as many as 19 points in the second half.
