Monster hip-check leads to odd goal in KHL (Video)
Hey, remember Joey Hishon?
The former Colorado Avalanche prospect is now playing for Jokerit of the KHL. In a game against Dynamo this week, Hishon took a pass at center ice and started moving into the attacking zone. Defenseman Andrei Mironov skated back to defend him.
Mironov took a big swipe at the puck with his stick and missed, but had a backup plan: Dropping down to take out Hishon, in one of the young season’s most spectacular hip-checks:
Yikes! Joey Hishon entered the Upside-Down! Beware the Demogorgon!
Or as the KHL YouTube channel described it: “Andrei Mironov drums some KHL science into Joey Hishon’s skull…”
Now, here’s the weird part: This incredible hit might have actually helped Hishon’s team score.
He went skates-over-eyebrows onto the ice and slid all the way to the Dynamo goal crease. Meanwhile, teammate Marko Anttila blasted a shot that caught goalie Alexander Yeryomenko off-guard and beat him. Maybe, like the rest of us, he was still processing having seen a man become a human tilt-a-whirl.
In the process, Hishon picked up the most sacrificial assist of his career.
Dynamo won the game, 2-1.
