Middleweight Martial Arts champion Anderson Silva announced Monday that he's taking a break from fighting, and doesn't plan to return until late 2013.
"I'm on vacation from fighting," Silva told Brazil-based web site Tatame. "I (will) just come back at the end of next year."
Silva said he will spend the time acting in a movie and working on other business ventures.
Silva's hiatus thwarts the UFC's plans for a battle between Silva and welterweight titleholder Georges St-Pierre, who is returning to fight Saturday at UFC 154 in Montreal -- his first bout in more than a year.
