MLB roundup: Cubs' Marmol loses closer role

Just one week into the season, Carlos Marmol received a quick hook as the Chicago Cubs' closer.
A day after Marmol blew a ninth-inning lead by giving up the tying and winning home runs in a loss to the Atlanta Braves, Marmol is out and Kyuji Fujikawa is in. Manager Dale Sveum announced the change before Sunday's game in Atlanta.
Marmol has given up five earned runs in 1 2/3 innings and has a 27.00 ERA this season. He will be used in a setup role for the foreseeable future.
Fujikawa, who signed a two-year, $9.5 million contract this winter after 12 seasons in Japan, also struggled n Saturday night's loss to the Braves, giving up three runs in the eighth inning that allowed the Braves to trim a 5-1 deficit to 5-4.

---Atlanta first baseman Freddie Freeman was not happy after the Braves placed him on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right oblique muscle.
Freeman doesn't think the injury, which he began to notice on March 31 during a workout, is that serious. He expressed his displeasure to manager Freddi Gonzales before the Braves played the Chicago Cubs.

---Boston Red Sox shortstop Stephen Drew is in line to return for Wednesday's game, according to CSN New England. He has been out with a concussion, and is currently on a minor-league rehab assignment.

--The Cleveland Indians optioned right-hander Trevor Bauer back to Triple-A Columbus following his spot start on Saturday night.
Carlos Carrasco has been reinstated from suspension and will join the Indians' rotation early this week.

--Milwaukee Brewers slugger Ryan Braun missed his third straight game Sunday because of neck spasms. It's not considered a long-term problem, however.

--- The Minnesota Twins placed right-hander Cole De Vries on the 15-day disabled list with a right forearm strain, reported.
The Twins also activated Anthony Swarzak from the disabled list and optioned Tyler Robertson.

-- Oakland A's right fielder Josh Reddick left Sunday's game after crashing into the wall while going after a foul ball. It appeared he injured his right arm.
