The Oakland A's will remain at O.co Coliseum for at least two more years under a proposed lease extension that was expected to be approved Monday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
That would eliminate the possibility of the A's playing their 2014 home games at AT&T Park in San Francisco.
The Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Authority was also scheduled to consider a one-year lease extension for the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders could move out of the Coliseum after the 2014 season, but their only option in the Bay Area is sharing Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara with the San Francisco 49ers.
The A's current lease expires Dec. 31. They want to move to San Jose and build a new ballpark, but the Giants are fighting the move, claiming territorial rights. Major League Baseball threatened to use its anti-trust exemption powers to force the Giants to share AT&T Park with the A's in the event an agreement with the Coliseum board is not reached.
---The A's acquired left-handed relief pitcher Fernando Abad from the Washington Nationals in exchange for minor league outfielder John Wooten.
---The Cleveland Indians signed free agent outfielder David Murphy to a two-year contract, the team announced. The deal also includes a club option for 2016.
MLB.com reported that the deal is worth $12 million.
---The Seattle Mariners announced their coaching staff under new manager Lloyd McClendon.
Former New York Mets infielder Howard Johnson was named hitting coach and former Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Andy Van Slyke is the first-base coach. John Stearns, who was the Mariners' Class AAA manager in Tacoma, was named third-base coach. Rick Waits is the new pitching coach, Mike Rojas is the bullpen coach and Chris Woodward is the infield coach.
---Garrett Jones, who was the Pittsburgh Pirates regular first baseman this past season before being replaced by Justin Morneau, was designated for assignment amid several moves made by the Pirates.
The Pirates acquired outfielder Jaff Decker and right-handed pitcher Miles Mikolas from the San Diego Padres in a trade that sent minor leaguer Alex Dickerson to San Diego.
To clear the two roster spots, Jones and pitcher Kyle McPherson were designated for assignment.
---Rich Dubee, who was dismissed as the Philadelphia Phillies pitching coach last month, will become the minor-league pitching coordinator in the Atlanta Braves organization.
