MLB Ex-Cardinal Scott Rolen Selling Key West Retreat

Few in Major League Baseball history have played the “hot corner” better than Scott Rolen. Now, the former St. Louis Cardinal is hoping his stunning Florida property is hot enough for a buyer to snap up.

The third baseman has listed his mansion on Sunset Key, a tiny island just 500 yards off the shore of Key West, for $1.8 million. The two-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom home sits on a 3,000-square-foot lot that is walking distance to three beaches.

The two-story mansion has been substantially remodeled, according to the listing. The master bedroom is upstairs, while the second bedroom, along with an eat-in kitchen and family living quarters, is downstairs.

Outside, the new owner can enjoy breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean from the deck, balcony, or porch. The backyard also features a pool and spa. Location is a key feature of Rolen’s home—a ferry zips Sunset Key residents to Key West’s historic downtown in just three minutes.

Rolen, who played for four MLB clubs in his career, burst onto the pro baseball scene in 1996, winning Rookie of the Year as a member of the Philadelphia Phillies. He was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals in 2002, at his request.

As a Cardinal, Rolen helped St. Louis reach the World Series in his first season and ultimately led them to a championship in 2006. He was traded to Toronto two years later and finished his career playing for the Blue Jays and the Cincinnati Reds.

Rolen was awarded the Gold Glove eight times. This trophy is given to the best defensive player at his respective position. He is also a seven-time All-Star.
