Missouri coach Gary Pinkel announced on Monday what had been suspected - that tailback Henry Josey will redshirt the 2012 season.
Josey had become a surprise star for the Tigers last season, rushing for 1,168 yards and nine touchdowns in 10 games while averaging 8.1 yards per carry before sustaining a severe knee injury last November. His anterior-cruciate ligament, medial-collateral ligament and patella tendon were all ruptured.
He had hoped to come back this season, but a second knee surgery in the spring put his return in jeopardy.
Pinkel said Josey was running 100-yard sprints this week, but said he will not play this season.
Josey is expected to return in 2013 and would have two years of eligibility remaining.
