The second day of the NFL scouting combine is highlighted by quarterbacks, wide receivers and tight ends. The Vikings may not be using high draft picks on these positions but should be looking to add some youth in these areas.

If the Vikings feel they have to draft one of the prospects from day two of the combine, the players listed may be one of them. Of course the players listed are not the best at each position; however, they do fit what the Vikings are looking for and the round they will be looking to draft them.

Quarterbacks

The Vikings already have quite the quarterback quandary yet could use a pick on some youth to replace Shaun Hill. Obviously, the team will not be going after Mitch Tribisky, DeShone Kizer or Deshaun Watson; the trio will be fun to watch nonetheless. Should the Vikings have a high grade on a certain quarterback that fall past the third or fourth round, the purple may just jump at the opportunity.

Brad Kaaya, Miami-An after thought in the quarterback-riddled ACC, Kaaya could either jump into second round or fall past the third. According in NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein, Kaaya needs to work on his accuracy on intermediate throws.

Nathan Peterman, Pittsburgh-The fun part will be watching Peterman battle it out against the quarterback that replaced him in Tennessee, Joshua Dobbs. Both quarterbacks have the skills to make it in the NFL yet Peterman has been graded out higher by CBSsports.com.

Sefo Liufau,Colorado-The four year starter and three year captain of the team may not be drafted but his mechanics may be something the Vikings want to look at more closely.

Wide receivers

Although it is unlikely the Vikings spend a high draft pick on a receiver this year, NFL.com’s Chad Reuter predicted the Vikings take a receiver with their first pick in the second round. Although one would expect the Vikings to shy away from a receiver, it never hurts to know some of the prospects just in case.

Cooper Kupp, Eastern Washington-Reuter may be on to something with having the Vikings looking towards this wide out. The FCS super star has also been compared to Larry Fitzgerald and Jarvis Landry; the Vikings may like the sounds of that.

ArDarius Stewart, Alabama-Stewart is yet another prospect that could be considered a boom or bust. The six-foot, 200 pound junior could easily climb up the draft boards if he shows off the speed like many believe he possesses. Stewart also could drop down certain boards should executives shy away due to character concerns.

Carlos Henderson, Louisiana Tech-The speedy wide out could immediately make an impact on special teams at the NFL level. The Vikings may look to Henderson as a replacement for Cordarrelle Patterson and or Marcus Sherels.

Jamari Staples, Louisville-Staples has the chance to showcase his athleticism that my bolster his draft stock. Staples has all the tools to produce in the NFL yet has not amassed great production at the college level.

Tight ends

Kyle Rudolph just had one of the best statistical season a Viking tight end has ever had in 2016. However, the Vikings may want to look at this allegedly deep class as they may want another pass-catcher to backup Rudolph.

Jonnu Smith, Florida International-If the Vikings want a strong tight end with amazing after-the-catch ability, they should watch Smith on day two. Zierlein from NFL.com compares the speedy tight end to Delanie Walker; he may be worth a day three pick.

Cole Hikutini, Louisville-Standing at a six-foot-five-inches tall could be a match up nightmare for smaller linebackers. He may need to refine his game a bit although he was the safety valve for Heisman Trophy winner, Lamar Jackson.

Finish

When attempting to pinpoint which prospects a team may or may not be looking at during the NFL combine, team needs play an intricate part. Do the Vikings need a second-round-graded quarterback, wide receiver or tight end? The answer to that is absolutely, especially if the highly graded player falls into the fourth, fifth or sixth round.

Do the Vikings need to draft one of these positions in the second round? Probably not; however, all three positions will be assessed by the Vikings’ brass and a few of the names listed would be a great start.
