Mike McCarthy would be OK with Michael Sam on roster

Packers coach Mike McCarthy stated publicly that he'd have no problem having Missouri defensive end Michael Sam on his roster.

Sam announced Sunday night that he's gay, which could potentially make him the first openly gay player in NFL history if he's drafted this May.

Speaking to reporters, via the Green Bay Press-Gazette, McCarthy said that he'd welcome Sam if the team thinks he can produce on the gridiron.

Sam led the SEC in sacks with 11.5 in 2013. However, he's undersized as a defensive end and scouts aren't sure how to project him as an outside linebacker.

A lot of draft prognosticators have slated Sam to go anywhere from the third through the seventh round.
