Former Indiana and Alabama-Birmingham coach Mike Davis has been named the interim head basketball coach at Texas Southern.
Davis will succeed Tony Harvey, who resigned last month because of personal reasons.
The announcement of Davis' hiring comes six months after Davis was fired at UAB.
"They [at Texas Southern] just asked me if I was interested in coaching," Davis told the Birmingham News. "I said 'Sure, without a doubt. I didn't want to sit out, I wanted to coach."
Davis is not certain when or if he will shed the interim label.
Harvey left two months after a former Texas Southern player, Whithworth Treasure, and a Texas Southern women's basketball player, Jasmine Payne, were charged with stealing more than $500,000 of expensive jewelry and other items from Harvey's house.
