Miami Heat honor Jose Fernandez with special shooting shirts

The tragic death of Miami Marlins ace Jose Fernandez has touched baseball fans all over the country and world. Fernandez stood out as a uniquely thrilling and fun athlete, the kind of guy who was going to be talked about for generations regardless of the length of his career. Baseball players have continued to honor Fernandez with messages on their caps and uniforms throughout the postseason, and his loss has been felt intensely for good reason.

It makes sense that South Florida has had a particularly strong reaction to Fernandez’s death. The Miami Heat are now getting involved in the many tributes to Fernandez in a small but affecting way. The team announced Tuesday morning that they will honor the Marlins pitcher during that night’s home exhibition game against the Brooklyn Nets with these special shooting shirts:

It’s not clear if the Heat will wear or sell these shirts in any other situation, but even one night of honoring Fernandez is a classy gesture. Perhaps these shirts will make more appearances throughout the season as Miami and the sports world as a whole continue to find ways to honor Fernandez.
