New York Mets reliever Frank Francisco underwent surgery on his right elbow to remove a bone spur. He's expected to begin throwing in about six weeks and should be ready for spring training.
The 33-year-old righty went 1-3 with a 5.53 ERA last season in his first year with the Mets, saving 23 games, but only five after the All-Star break. For his career, Francisco has 72 saves in eight seasons, with a career-best 25 saves for Texas in 2009.
During the 2012 season, Francisco last pitched Sept. 16.
