Melania Trump arrived in Sicily this morning—the last day of her first official tour as First Lady—where her husband is attending the G7 summit. FLOTUS's outfit? A cream-colored shift dress and a rosette-embellished coat, the latter with a price tag of $51,500. Mrs. Trump also carried a matching clutch costing $1,630. All are made by Italian design house Dolce & Gabbana, whose pieces Mrs. Trump also wore to meet the Pope earlier this week, as well as when spending time with fellow NATO spouses in Brussels.

It's common practice, of course, for First Ladies to wear brands based in countries they are visiting, or collections from nations whose leaders or officials visit the white house (see Michelle Obama's Versace gown from her final state dinner, which was with former Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and his wife, Agnese Landini ). And Dolce & Gabbana designer Stefano Gabbana has been very vocal in his support for the First Lady wearing his brand (co-designed by Domenico Dolce), posting multiple photos of her in Dolce & Gabbana on his Instagram account—celebrating Mrs. Trump wearing the label, and even addressing "haters" calling for a boycott of his line. The feeling seems to be mutual for Melania Trump, who has worn Dolce & Gabbana on several prior occasions, including for her official White House portrait.

The coat Melania wore in Sicily is a runway look from Dolce & Gabbana's fall 2017 show. Her style, though, is lined in the same material as her dress, while the runway one is lined in a blue floral fabric.

The piece is not widely available for purchase yet, so Melania's was likely made for her by the Italian house. Here she is wearing it in Catania, Sicily.

Luxury e-commerce site Moda Operandi offered the coat, but it's no longer available there. Those who did order the coat from Moda Operandi were required to put a $25,750 down.

The $51,500 price tag is probably due to the coat's ornate floral embellishments, which are time consuming to create and affix. Whatever your politics, though, it's impossible not to note that that amount of money is more than what many people in the U.S. earn every year. In fact, the median income, as reported by the Census Bureau in 2015, was $55,775.
