“I’ve been educating, not only what service animals can do, but also breaking a ton of misconceptions that are out there about service dogs. One of them is that they have to be registered, which just isn’t true in the United States,” she explains.

Jaquie shares that despite Harlow being present to help her, she’s had the police called on her for taking her service dog into certain establishments.

“They just have to be specially trained to mitigate my disability,” she explains of what is required to be deemed a service dog. She goes on to say that service dogs are allowed in “no pet” housing for no fee and allowed on airplanes. “My biggest advice to new service dog handlers and current ones is that you need to know your rights… the more knowledge you have the more you can advocate for yourself.”
