Maybe it's Taylor Swift's fault the Giants lost to the Cubs

If you enjoy a good conspiracy theory, you’ll like how some San Francisco Giants fans are attempting to explain the team’s loss to the Chicago Cubs in the National League Division, which ended their run of three straight even-year World Series championships.

It’s all Taylor Swift’s fault!

Yeah, we know, you have to be asking how could an award-winning music star have any logical bearing on a baseball outcome. It’s simple. It was never about the even years at all, but rather years Swift released a new album.

Swift released a new album in 2010, 2012 and 2014, but not 2016. The Giants, of course, won the World Series in 2010, 2012 and 2014, but won’t in 2016. It all adds up to some Giants fans, and they’ve been sounding off on Twitter.

According to the Sporting News, this theory isn’t a new one. The Ringer brought it up in September, before we even knew if the Giants would make the playoffs.

The Giants had entered the All-Star break with the best record in MLB, but limped through the second half, only locking up a wild-card position on the final day of the regular season. Based on those struggles, it’s apparent people have been searching for potential explanations for a while now, and this one involving Taylor Swift is sticking. As The Ringer also points out, her 2014 album was titled 1989, which was the year Swift was born. It also happens to mark the Giants last odd-year championship.

There are definitely more than a few coincidences here. Certainly enough to get a conspiracy theorist’s attention. We sincerely doubt any Cubs fans are among them though. They’re too focused on reversing a curse caused by a goat to pay any attention to this nonsense.
