Update: Perez has been diagnosed with a non-displaced fracture of his left wrist, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. The Rangers are hoping he will be ready to pitch again by the beginning of May.

Recommendation: While Perez will likely miss two months with the injury, he could have been out longer had his fracture been more severe. He will be able to do light workouts while recovering, but he will likely need a couple weeks near the end of the process to rebuild his arm strength and stamina. With Perez out for Opening Day, consider the competition for the Rangers' fifth starter spot wide open.
