Marshawn Lynch suspended one game by NFL

Maybe Marshawn Lynch can watch the Oakland Raiders’ next game from the stands too. He won’t be on the field.

When Lynch came off the sideline Thursday night to join a scrum on the field and ended up shoving an official, it was clear he might be suspended. It was no surprise when the NFL gave him a one-game suspension on Friday evening for unsportsmanlike conduct. He will miss the Raiders’ Oct. 29 game against the Buffalo Bills.

Specifically, the NFL suspended him for making “deliberate physical contact with one of our game officials” and getting involved in a situation which he was not “directly involved.”

The situation started when Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Marcus Peters hit Raiders quarterback Derek Carr late on a run. Some of the Raiders players confronted Lynch, who is close to Peters. Lynch ran off the sideline and ended up shoving and grabbing an official. He was ejected. There was no way the NFL was going to let one of its players running in off the sideline to join a fight slide without significant punishment.

Lynch reportedly left the stadium after he was ejected, but he showed up in the stands during the game and even rode the BART train with fans after the game. He’ll have plenty of time to mingle with the fans in Buffalo next week too.
