GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- Devonte Williams scored 20 points and dished a career-high 10 assists as Division II Mars Hill upended Furman 97-93 on Tuesday night.
Williams is the Southern Athletic Conference leader in assists per game at 5.4. He sparked the Lions (2-6) past Furman with two assists during a breakaway 10-2 run deep in the second half, first feeding Thomas Anderson for a layup and a 62-62 tie and later finding Will White for a 3-pointer and a 67-62 lead, which they never lost.
Anderson scored four of his 14 points in the run, Carter Wright finished with 18 points, Jalen Witherspoon 17 and Kevin Haynes 14. The Lions shot 52.9 percent, hitting 27 of 51 shots, and scored 32 from the free-throw line.
Larry Wideman scored 20 for Furman (4-5), hitting 5 of 10 3-pointers. The loss was Furman's first against a non-Division I school in 36 games, dating to 1997.
