Right-handed reliever Carlos Marmol joined the Los Angeles Dodgers 25-man roster Tuesday.
Hard-throwing closer-in-waiting Jose Dominguez was optioned to Triple-A to create a spot on the roster.
Marmol, 30, was acquired from the Chicago Cubs and accepted a minor-league assignment with the Dodgers.
He joined the team in Toronto and is expected to be used initially in middle relief.
The former All-Star closer was due $10.1 million from the Cubs, who placed him on waivers in order to facilitate the trade and picked up most of his remaining salary. He had a 5.86 ERA with 21 walks in 27 2/3 innings with Chicago this season.
Marmol owns 117 career saves with 703 strikeouts in 542 1/3 innings and a 3.50 ERA.
