The Seattle Mariners designated outfielder Jason Bay for assignment on Monday.
The move was made to make room for the return of Michael Morse, who was activated from the disabled list.
Bay, 34, was attempting to resurrect his career after some difficult years with the New York Mets. He hit just .165 with eight homers in 70 games for the Mets last season.
Bay signed a one-year, $1 million deal with the Mariners after being released by the Mets, and he made the team out of spring training as a non-roster player
He had 11 home runs this season, but his batting average was just .204.
