Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin told reporters Tuesday he hopes to play in team's next game on Friday at the New York Islanders.
Malkin missed his sixth straight game Tuesday against the Washington Capitals, but he skated with the team at practice Tuesday morning.
"I miss my team," Malkin told reporters after the morning practice. "And I hope to play on Friday."
Malkin hasn't played since March 9 with what is believed to be a shoulder injury. The team says it is unrelated to the concussion that sidelined the reigning NHL MVP earlier in the year.
Malkin has five goals and 19 assists in 21 games this season.
