Orlando Magic rookie forward Andrew Nicholson will participate in the BBVA Rising Stars Challenge during the NBA's All-Star Weekend.
Nicholson was added to the squad of "Team Shaq" in the game that features the league's first- and second-year players. He takes the place of Detroit Pistons rookie center Andre Drummond, who is out for at least a month with a back injury. Nicholson's Orlando teammate, second-year center Nikola Vucevic, will play for "Team Chuck."
The squads will be led by NBA legends Shaquille O'Neal and Charles Barkley, with each side including both freshmen and sophomores. This is the second season the game will use the current format. Previously, the rookies would face off against the second-year players.
Nicholson, a 6-foot-9 forward from St. Bonaventure, averages 7.6 points and 3.5 rebounds in just 15.4 minutes per game. Prior to learning of his selection for the Rising Stars game, he planned to spend the All-Star break at the beach.
The Rising Stars Challenge is scheduled for Friday in Houston, where the All-Star Game will be played Feb. 17.
