Magic Johnson wants to pull a dunk-contest participant by the name of LeBron James out of his hat and he thinks the lure of $1 million just might be the trick.
At least he and many other NBA fans and television executives are hoping that $1 million is enough to entice James to participate in the All-Star Weekend slam dunk contest.
James steadfastly has rejected taking part in the event, despite pleas from all corners of the NBA. The Heat megastar has been putting on dunking displays during pregame warm-ups, and these displays have sparked even louder calls for him to participate.
Johnson said during the Friday night ESPN pregame NBA show that he would write the check if James agreed to take part.
"Please LeBron, get in the dunk contest. I'm going to put up a million dollars. A million dollars to LeBron. Please get in the dunk contest. I go every year. I want to see you out there. A million to the winner."
James has yet to respond.
The winner of the contest gets $100,000 to the winner and $50,000 to the runner-up.
