Magic Channel wins feature at Santa Anita

ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) -- Magic Channel rallied from last to win the $45,000 Supernova Purse by a head at Santa Anita on Thursday.

Ridden by Rafael Bejarano, Magic Channel ran 6 1/2 furlongs on the hillside turf course in 1:12.94 and paid $6.60, $3.60 and $2.40 as the 2-1 favorite. The 4-year-old gelding had been idle since Sept. 4. He was claimed for $50,000 two starts ago by Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer.

Craving Carats returned $4.80 and $2.80. Luz Atticus and This One's for Mel dead-heated for third, a head back. The show payoff was $2.80 for Luz Atticus, and $2.20 for This One's for Mel.

The victory, worth $27,000, increased Magic Channel's career earnings to $104,451, with four wins in 11 starts.
