Loyola-Chicago 80, Campbell (N.C.) 68
Freshman guard Milton Doyle scored a career-high 30 points as Loyola-Chicago made it back-to-back wins for the first time this season with a 80-68 non-conference victory over Campbell (N.C.) on Friday at Gentile Arena.
Guard Christian Thomas had 16 points while forward Matt O'Leary added 15 as the Ramblers improved to 5-5.
Guard Reco McCarter scored 12 points and forward Darius Leonard added 11 for the Fighting Camels (4-6), now losers of three straight.
Doyle, a redshirt freshman and transfer from Kansas, was 9-for-13 from the field -- including two 3-pointers -- and 12-of-15 from the free-throw line.
Trailing 43-38 early in the second half, the Ramblers scored 12 unanswered points to claim a 50-43 lead with 12:23 showing and never gave up the advantage.
The lead quickly hit double-digits after Doyle dunked with 7:02 showing for a 63-51 lead. Loyola's edge never slipped below six points the rest of the way.
Loyola and Campbell had never met previously and Friday's game was also the Ramblers' first against any Big South Conference opponent.
Both teams resume play next Wednesday as Loyola hosts Northern Illinois in the last of three straight home games while Campbell travels to Robert Morris.
