Senior Ben Averkamp recorded the ninth double-double of his career, and classmate Jordan Hicks scored a career-high 21 points to lead host Loyola to a 76-65 victory over Milwaukee in Horizon League basketball Wednesday night in Chicago.
Averkamp finished with 22 points and 12 rebounds as the Ramblers (13-8, 3-5) broke open a back-and-forth game with an 18-0 run in the second half that gave them a 62-44 cushion with just under seven minutes left.
Milwaukee's Austin Arians hit a 3-pointer with 5:58 remaining to end the run, giving the visiting Panthers (5-17, 1-7) their first points in more than eight minutes.
Arians scored 11 points in the first half, which ended with Milwaukee on top 33-31. The teams then swapped the lead through the first six minutes of the second half until the score was 44-44 and the Ramblers went on their run.
Arians ended up with 17 points off the bench to match Jordan Aaron for scoring honors for the Panthers.
The victory snapped a three-game home losing streak for the Ramblers, while the Panthers remained winless on the road in 12 games.
