The Detroit Lions have released offensive guard Rodney Austin. Follow all of the Lions' moves as they get down to 53 players with our roster cuts tracker.

According to Dave Birkett, the Detroit Lions have released Rodney Austin, their third guard cut today.

All along, it looked like Austin was going to make the team as one of the Lions' backups on the interior of the offensive line. That didn't end up happening, though. After a somewhat inconsistent preseason, Austin was let go, indicating that he's not quite ready for a permanent backup role just yet. Chances are the Lions will try to put him back on their practice squad as they continue to develop him.

It seemed like Austin may have had a chance with Darren Keyton and Garrett Reynolds being released earlier today, but the Lions have decided to go with one less offensive lineman on the roster.
