Two-time Cy Young Award winner Johan Santana is throwing, six months after having surgery to repair a re-tear of the anterior capsule in his left shoulder.
Santana, who was injured in 2012 and missed the entire 2013 season because of the surgery, wrote on Twitter Friday that he is progressing.
"Very happy to move to the next phase of my rehab! Throwing!!!! So far, so good!!!" he wrote.
Santana will likely be a free agent this winter. The New York Mets are expected to pay him a $5.5 million buyout instead of a $25.5 million option for next year. However, the Mets said they may be interested in bringing him back at a discounted rate.
The 34-year-old left-hander will probably settle for a one-year contract loaded with incentives.
Santana is 139-78 with a 3.21 ERA in 284 career starts.
