Toronto Maple Leafs fan Jim Vigmond spent $5,300 for a toilet from the Maple Leaf Gardens' home dressing room, according to a Toronto Star report.
The Ontario lawyer purchased the item at an auction. He shifted his focus from a 1967 Stanley Cup banner when bidding became steep, and flushed his money into the toilet. He was willing to spend as much as $10,000.
"They thought I had money to burn, and surely there was something that I could have better spent my money on," he told the paper. "They've got a point. But ... it's a part of an icon. I just thought ... what a rare piece and just think of all of the people that have spent time contemplating in that dressing room what lies ahead of them."
The Leafs played at Maple Leaf Gardens from 1931-99. More than 100 items from the arena were up for auction.
