The Los Angeles Lakers hope Pau Gasol proves to be a FAST healer.
The forward will have a Focused Aspiration of Scar Tissue (FAST) procedure performed on both knees. The ultrasonic process is considered minimally invasive.
"After talking to several specialists, I'm going to proceed to regenerate both of my patellar tendons and working hard to get back to my 100%," Gasol posted on his Twitter account.
The Lakers said a timetable for Gasol's recovery won't be known until after the procedure.
Knee problems were part of the reason Gasol appeared in a career-low 49 games this season. He averaged 13.7 points and 8.6 rebounds, his lowest figures since joining the Lakers in 2007-08.
The 32-year-old Spaniard is heading into the final year of his contract. He'll make more than $19 million in 2013-14.
