EASTON, Pa. (AP) -- Seth Hinrichs matched his career high with 28 points and Lafayette held on for its first victory, 79-76 over Penn on Saturday.

The win ended a five-game losing streak to start the season for Lafayette (1-5), which last opened with five losses in 2002-03.

Nathaniel Musters' basket with 8:49 left gave the Leopards the lead for good, though they weren't able to stretch it beyond six. Fran Dougherty's 3-pointer with 10 seconds left got the Quakers (2-4) within 78-76. But Joey Ptasinski's free throw made it a 3-point game and the Quakers' Tony Hicks then missed a 3-pointer.

Hinrichs was 10 of 19 from the field, including 6 of 10 on 3-pointers. Ptasinski added 16 points, Nick Lindner 12 and Bryce Scott 11 for the Leopards.

Dougherty scored a season-high 26 points. Hicks added 16.

Lafayette trails 40-7 in the series, but is 4-3 in the last seven meetings.
