Lafayette picked up its third straight win overall and sixth straight at home, holding off visiting Navy 64-47 Saturday in the Patriot League opener for both teams.
Seth Hinrichs led the Leopards (8-10, 1-0 Patriot League) with 22 points, while Tony Johnson and Joey Ptasinski each added 14. The three combined to make 20 of the team's 24 shots.
Brandon Venturini's 23 points, 21 of those coming on 3-pointers, led the Midshipmen (6-11, 0-1), who opened the game by scoring 10 of the first 14 points.
However, the Leopards held the Midshipmen scoreless over the last 5:11 of the half, going on an 8-0 run to take a 25-18 at intermission.
The Midshipmen opened the second half like the first, using two 3-pointers from Venturini to fuel a 12-5 run over the first 5:30 to cut the lead to 32-30.
But once again, the Leopards were unfazed, scoring 15 of the next 17 points, while making 6 of 7 shots in the process, to take a 47-32 lead with 10:25 to go.
The Midshipmen finished shooting just 38 percent (18 of 48) from the field, and just 30 percent (7 of 23) on 3-pointers, while the Leopards shot 48 percent (24 of 50) and 44 percent (7 of 16) on 3-pointers.
