Louisiana Tech reportedly has hired Skip Holtz as its next football coach.
ESPN.com reported the veteran coach and son of former Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz will replace Sonny Dykes, who filled the Cal vacancy this month.
Most recently, Holtz was 16-21 at South Florida, where he was fired after three seasons. The Bulls had a 3-9 record this season, the worst in their 16 years.
Holtz, 48, has a 88-71 career coach record. Before USF, he was head coach at Connecticut and East Carolina, where he led the Pirates to two Conference USA titles.
Louisiana Tech went 8-4 this season with a 6-1 record in the Western Athletic Conference. However, the Bulldogs will not go to a bowl game this month because they passed on the Independence Bowl and no other bowl game offered them a berth.
The football program will move to Conference USA next season.
