PHILADELPHIA -- LaSalle used a balanced attack to overcome Richmond, the top outside shooting team in the Atlantic 10 Conference, 71-59, on Saturday at Tom Gola Arena.
Four players finished in double figures for the Explorers (11-4, 1-1 in the Atlantic 10), as the Explorers knocked off the Spiders (11-6, 1-1) for the second time in a row.
Tyrone Garland led the way with 17 points off the bench, and Tyreek Duren added 15 for La Salle.
Kendall Anthony had 13 points for Richmond, which was unable to avenge its first round loss to LaSalle in last year's A-10 tournament. Darien Brothers was held to seven points on 2-13 shooting.
Richmond, which entered the game as the best 3-point shooting team in the conference, was forced inside by the LaSalle defense and finished 4-of-16 from beyond the arc.
The Spider missed all five of their 3-point shots in the final three minutes.
Richmond played its third consecutive game without junior forward Derrick Williams, who expected to be out for another month because of a sprained ankle.
Without him, the Spiders started three guards and lacked size on the inside, which helped lead to a deficit on the boards.
Richmond was able to limit the damage, however, as LaSalle out-rebounded Richmond by only 29-28. Instead, the Spiders were undone by their 15 turnovers.
LaSalle led, 33-30, at halftime.
