Kowalczyk wins women's 5K cross-country race

KUUSAMO, Finland (AP) -- Justyna Kowalczyk of Poland earned a second straight victory to start the women's cross-country World Cup season, beating triple Olympic champion Marit Bjoergen to win a 5-kilometer race on Saturday.

In the men's 10K race, Lukas Bauer of the Czech Republic won ahead of Eldar Roenning of Norway and Russia's Dmitry Japarov.

Kowalczyk finished the classical-style race in 13 minutes, 33.7 seconds, with Bjoergen finishing 3 seconds behind. Another Norwegian, Therese Johaug, was 14.6 seconds behind in third place.

On Friday, Kowalczyk won the 1.4-kilometer sprint ahead of Kikkan Randall of the United States.

Bauer clocked 24 minutes, 43.6 seconds in the men's race to beat Roenning by 2.4 seconds. Japarov was 5.7 seconds back.
