Kentucky, Michigan State top AP poll

Kentucky and Michigan State retained the top two spots in the Associated Press' first regular-season poll, which was released Monday.
The Wildcats and Spartans meet Tuesday night in the Champions Classic doubleheader in Chicago. It is the first time in five years that the top two teams in the country have met.
No. 1 Kentucky received 28 of 65 first-place votes in the poll, while No. 2 Michigan State got 22.
The last matchup between the nation's top two teams was on Feb. 24, 2008, when No. 2 Tennessee topped No. 1 Memphis 66-62.
Defending NCAA champion Louisville was No. 3 with 12 first-place votes. No. 4 Duke received the remaining three top votes. Kansas rounds out the top five.
The Blue Devils and Jayhawks meet in the other Champions Classic game.
Arizona, Michigan, Oklahoma State, Syracuse and Ohio State make up the rest of the top 10.
