Kathleen Rose wins feature at Santa Anita

ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) -- Kathleen Rose led all the way to win the $71,550 feature for fillies and mares by 1 1/2 lengths at Santa Anita on Thursday.

Ridden by Edwin Maldonado, Kathleen Rose ran a mile on the turf in 1:33.83 and paid $16.20, $5.40 and $4.40 at 7-1 odds.

Rhagori returned $2.60 and $2.20 as the 4-5 favorite. Charlie Em was another 1 1/4 lengths back in third and paid $5 to show.

The victory, worth $46,800, was the fourth in eight career races for Kathleen Rose, who is trained by Mike Machowsky.

In the first race, Wake Up Nick broke a 42-year-old track record when ran 4 1/2 furlongs in 51.22 seconds, bettering the mark of 51.40 set by Willy Float on March 23, 1972.

The 2-year-old California-bred won by 9 1/4 lengths under Mario Gutierrez. He is trained by Doug O'Neill and owned by J. Paul Reddam. The trio teamed with I'll Have Another to win the Kentucky Derby and Preakness in 2012.
