Justin Verlander: Signs Extension With Tigers

Update: Verlander and the Tigers agreed to a five-year contract extension on Friday, Tigers Dir. of Media Relations Brian Britten reports.

Recommendation: Verlander's contract will be tacked onto his current deal and run through the 2019 season. The deal also includes a $22 million vesting option for the 2020 season, giving him a potential maximum salary of $202 million over the next eight seasons. Verlander has been one of the top pitchers in the game the last couple seasons and will be paid as such for the foreseeable future. He will make his 2013 debut Monday against the Twins.
