Right now, there is no baseball and everyone misses it. Well, there’s no baseball in America. The playoffs for the Dominican Winter League are happening, which means thankfully there’s baseball going on somewhere. Doesn’t that make you feel better about the world, even just a little bit?

Jonathan Villar, infielder for the Milwaukee Brewers, is playing in the Dominican Winter League. You may also know him as 2016’s stolen base king. He stole 62 bases for the Brewers this season, and he hasn’t slowed down one bit during his winter activities.

That is Jonathan Villar executing a perfect straight steal of home plate.

The announcer doesn’t sound terribly excited, but what Villar did was insanely awesome. He’s just standing on third base, casually wandering further and further off the bag, and suddenly he’s off like a shot. As Villar is absolutely streaking toward home plate, the pitcher eventually realizes what’s happening and frantically throws the ball to the catcher. But it was too late, and Villar slid in just under the tag. It was magnificent.

It was the only run that Villar’s team, Aguilas Cibaeñas, scored on Tuesday night. The lost the game, but Villar’s steal of home was surely their most magnificent highlight.

Pitchers and catchers report in 46 days. If that’s the kind of awesomeness we can expect from Villar, then everyone might want to keep an eye on the Brewers in 2017.
