Jonathan Stewart: Won't Play in Preseason Finale

Update: Stewart (ankle) won't play in the Panthers' preseason finale against the Steelers on Thursday, the Charlotte Observer reports.

Recommendation: Stewart, who was carted off the field Sunday against the Jets, was on crutches in the Panthers' locker room after the game, but initial tests suggest that his ankle injury is not a severe one. "It looked like he had a twisted ankle, sprained it a little bit," coach Ron Rivera said. "We’re going to be very careful with it obviously. We got X-rays, completely negative...I’ll tell you right now, he’s not going to play on Thursday (at Pittsburgh)." In any case, while Stewart appears to have avoided a worst-case scenario here, the timing of his latest injuries clouds his Week 1 availability, at least for the time being.
