Jets use playground play to score first touchdown of the day vs. Rams

Trick plays – when they work – can be pretty great. The New York Jets, hosting the Los Angeles Rams, used the type of play you’d work on with your friends on the playground.

Initially, it looks like a designed screen to Bilal Powell, but second-year quarterback Bryce Petty throws a short pass to Brandon Marshall, who then flips the ball to Powell, who high-steps over the goal line.

It was an exciting finish to quite the drive for Petty, making his first start. He took the Jets 99 yards in nine plays. Unfortunately it was the Jets’ lone score in a 9-6 loss. (Yes, kicker Nick Folk missed the PAT.)

In case you were wondering, Petty gets credit for a passing touchdown while Powell gets a receiving touchdown. Marshall gets nothing but the satisfaction of being a good teammate.
